“Esta misma noche, todo ha cambiado.  Dios está entre nosotros.  Ya no hay miedo.  ¡Toda la creación canta con gozo por este Bebito!”

 

  Van a oir ese tema una y otra vez este domingo en la Cantata de Navidad.  ¿Porqué?  Porque cuando Dios entre nosotros como UNO DE NOSOTROS en el bebé Jesús todo cambió.  Dios vino en Jesús para (1) salvarnos de nuestro pecado, (2) para reconciliarnos consigo mismo, (3) para restaurar Su creación quebrada, y (4) para iniciar Su Reino entre nosotros.  Vino a hacer por nosotros lo que no pudimos hacer por nosotros mismos.  Hay porque tener mucho gozo “por este bebito”. 

      Vengan a celebrar el gozo del nacimiento de Jesús con nosotros en los siguientes cultos y actividades.

 

Domingo, 16 de dic.- 

9:00 am-  Estudio Bíblico

10:30 am-  Un solo culto bilingüe con la Cantata de navidad                                      “Esta Misma Noche”, el coro de Niños, y el grupo de                                                     Danza Litúrgica

12:00 md- Comida Congregacional de Navidad   Traigan platillos y postres que acompañan jamón y pavo.  Un invitado  especial llegará para los niños/as. 

 

Miércoles, 19 de dic.-  6:15 pm- Devocional

 6:30 pm-  Salimos a cantar villancicos a los de mayor edad.

 

Domingo, 23 de dic.-   8:30 am-  Culto en inglés, 4to dom. de adviento

11:00 am-  Culto en español, 4to dom. de adviento

 

Lunes, 24 de dic.-        5:30 pm-  Culto de Comunión y Velas

“On this very night everything’s changed.  God is among us.  No fears remain.

All of creation sings out with joy for this Baby Boy.”

 

     This Sunday you will hear these words sung in the theme song of the cantata  sung over

and over again.  Why?  Because when God came among us as ONE OF US in the Baby Jesus, everything changed.

God was present in Jesus

(1)     to save us from our sin,

(2)     to reconcile us with Himself,

(3)     to restore God’s broken creation, and

(4)     to usher in the Kingdom of God on earth. 

He came to do for us what we could not do for ourselves.  There is reason to have great joy “for this Baby Boy!”

     Come celebrate the joy of Jesus’ birth through the following services and events:

 

Sunday, Dec. 16

9:00 am– Bible Study

10:30– One, joint, bilingual service with the Christmas

Cantata, “On This Very Night”; the Children’s Choir; and the Spirit Dancers

12:00 noon– Congregational Christmas Lunch  Please bring a covered dish or deserts that go with the ham or turkey that will be provided. 

A special guest will arrive for the children.

     We give thanks to God for all the mission/outreaches in which the church has been involved recently.  We share here the results so that you can rejoice as well in these seeds that have been sown for the Kingdom!

1.        More than 140 people of the Austin Learning Academy community were served Thanksgiving Dinner by our church.  This is the fifth year we have done this. 

2.        Our Mobile Loaves and Fishes  group ministered to the homeless on November 27 and December 11 and will do so again on December 24.

3.        Our second annual “Celebrate Christmas” fair, Dec. 8, attracted 600 to 700 people from east Austin.  280 toys were distributed and about 200 bags of groceries by Emmanuel and the other churches.   The tamales and hotdogs, the praise bands, the medical checks by the Wesley nurses, and the prayer booth added to the wonderful afternoon!

4.        2,000 candy canes were distributed to children in Nuevo Laredo..

5.        Many of you brought the gifts for 45 children at our  Matamoros mission.

6.        80 UT Wesley Foundation students were served dinner Nov. 29!

We praise God for all of you who have answered the call to missions!  God bless you!

     Damos gracias a Dios por todos los alcances misioneros en que la iglesia ha sido involucrada ultimamente.  Compartimos los resultados con ustedes para que puedan regocijarse por la semillas que han sido sembradas por el Reino. 

1.        Servimos a más de 140 personas de la comunidad de Austin Learning Academy  una comida de acción de gracias en el salón social.  Ya tenemos cinco años sirviendo esta comida.

2.        Nuestro grupo de Panes y Peces ha repartido comida a los que no tienen vivienda  el 27 de nov.  Y el 11 de dic.  Lo volverán a hacer el 24 de dic.

3.        Nuestra segunda feria de "Celebremos Navidad" atrajo a 600 a 700 personas del este de Austin el 8 de dic.  Nosotros y las otras iglesias repartimos 280 juguetes, 200 dispensas, tamales y hotdogs.  Los grupos de alazanza, los chequeos médicos por las enfer– meras Wesley, y el puesto de ora-ción añadieron al muy bonito día.

4.        Dimos 2.000 dulces para repartir a los niños de Nuevo Laredo.

5.        Muchos de ustedes trajeron regalos para los niños de la misión en Matamoros. 

6.        Servimos una cena mexicana a 80 universitarios metodistas de UT el 29 de nov.

Gracias a Dios por ustedes que han respondido al llamado misionero.  Dios les bendiga.

La Voz de Emmnanuel

The reverse side of the Emmaus Cross says “Christ is counting on you!”   Emmanuel is counting on you so that we may continue to grow in mission and outreach in the coming year!  Many of you turned in your pledge card for 2008 on December 2 when we dedicated them on the altar.  Praise be to God!  If you have not done so to date and you can not find the one that was sent in the mail, there will be pledge cards available this Sunday, December 16, so that you may prayerfully fill it out and put it in the offering plate.  God bless you!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

El revés de la cruz de Emaús dice “Cristo cuenta contigo.”  Emmanuel está contando con usted para que podamos seguir creciendo en misión y alcance en 2008.   Muchos de ustedes ya entregaron su tarjeta de promesa el 2 de diciembre y las dedicamos en el altar.  ¡Gloria a Dios!  Si no lo ha hecho todavía, puede traer la tarjeta que recibió por correo o habrá tarjetas en la entrada del templo, para que la pueda poner en el platillo de ofrenda este domingo, 16 de dic.  Dios les bendiga.

Leticia Estavillo will lead a new Adult English Class.  The first three months they will  the beliefs of the United Methodist Church.  Later they will study Christian theology, Christian history and even C. S. Lewis.  Contact Leticia at 431-4940 if have questions!

Can we Count on You?    ¿Podemos contar con Ud.?

More than forty people came to Church Council on November 26 to share their concerns and to discern where God is leading us concerning our worship services.  We give thanks to God that many were present from both services.  The  Church Council decided to try one, bilingual service for the four Sundays in February.  Including both languages and the many styles of worship that we use will be a challenge.  So please pray that God will guide the Worship area, the pastor, and all of us so that these services can be a blessing to all and mostly to God!

     Más de 40 personas llegaron al Concilio de la Iglesia el 26 de  noviembre para compartir sus preocupaciones y para discernir  a donde Dios  nos esté guiando

en cuanto a nuestros cultos.  Gracias a Dios por los muchos que llegaron de los dos cultos.  El Concilio decidió hacer una prueba.  Habrá un solo culto bilingüe en el mes de febrero.  Es un desafio incluir los dos idiomas y los estilos de ado-ración que usamos.  Oren por el pastor, la área de adoración y por todos para que estos cultos sean una bendición a Dios y al pueblo.
