| New Adult English Sunday School Class |
|
Starting in January, we will have an additional adult English Sunday school class. This class will emphasize or focus on Christian theology such as understanding the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, the Sacraments, etc. and classic Christian literature such as John Wesley, St. Augustine, C. S. Lewis, the Heidelberg Catechisms, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, John Calvin, etc. We will be meeting in the classroom above the Jackson Hall during Sunday school time. In 2008, the General Conference of the United Methodist Church will meet again as it does every four years. This is the church’s top legislative body for all matters affecting the United Methodist connection. So, to start the class off, the first course of study will be a review of the beliefs of the United Methodist Church. Our first study will be a 3-month study called “This We Believe” by Norman Madsen. This resource focuses on basic United Methodist doctrines on salvation, sin, sanctification, God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and more. Madsen explores their historical context, scriptural basis, theological implications, and importance. This Student Book contains parts of the Articles of Religion and Confession of Faith. After this study, the class preliminarily will move onto the book, Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis and then parts of Shirley Gutherie’s Christian Doctrine.
